The Roots of Indo-European Patriarchy: DNA, Indo-European Female Figures and the Principles of Energy

Miriam Robbins Dexter

Abstract

Miriam Robbins Dexter begins her article about “The Roots of Indo-European Patriarchy” by discussing her doctoral studies with Professor Gimbutas at the University of California, Los Angeles, who encouraged her dedication as an Indo-European linguist and interdisciplinary scholar. In this article, Dexter discusses who the Proto-Indo-Europeans were: their religion and social structure, the place of women in their societies, and what element of society may have comprised those who expanded out of the Proto-Indo-European Homeland.

Before her death, Marija Gimbutas asked Miriam Robbins Dexter to edit and complete her final manuscript that was published posthumously as The Living Goddesses by Marija Gimbutas in 1999.
